After spending a lot of time out in the field leading hikes and teaching art lessons, I constantly searched for a book that helped me teach about California's Native Plants and Animals and that not only instructed  Adults and Children alike  but to also offered interesting information to help manifest an appreciation for the wealth of diversity that California has to offer.. So over time, I had to keep creating handouts that got the best use out of one sheet of paper if they were photocopied, and that also had good information on them. This culminated into the book "How to draw 50 Native Plants and Animals."
My hope is that by learning how to draw one of these, the reader will learn how to identify it out in the field. If you give something an identity, you appreciate it more. Thus, we can all understand and appreciate nature on a deeper level and ultimately, conserve what we find valuable.
